I'm probably one of the few australians who hate vegemite. YUK.
My youngest doesn't like it. My oldest does and I sometimes wonder if it is because of my cravings for salty foods (like vegemite on toast) when I was pregnant with her.
We always ate Bovril instead. Thats because Dad came from Guernsey and he grew up on it. I don't think we ever had vegemite in the house.
Yes, you definitely have to start eating vegemite at a very young age. Like Connie and her durian fruit.
I only have vegemite as a "comfort" food when I am really sick (it is something I can keep in the cupboard for many years without fear of it going off!) A couple of years ago I brought a bottle back to work & we used it as a fund raiser for breast cancer. We charged $2 for people to try it on a Jatz cracker!! There are 130 people in our office and most of them tried it but only one person admitted to liking it!! Mind you, a lot of times when Americans try it they spread it on thickly like they would peanut butter - which must taste disgusting!
I sent some to some American friends to try and they all hated it. one sent me a photo of her eating it and I could tell she had spread it too thick despite my warnings.
